There are more and more people than ever travelling to other countries. What does that cause? Does this have a positive or negative effect?

INTRODUCTION

“more and more” –> “an increasing number” “a greater number”

“people” –> “individuals”

“travelling to” –> “venturing to”

“effect” –> “consequence” “result” “outcome”

“positive” –> “beneficial”

“negative” –> “harmful”

SAMPLE – “With the ease of modern air travel, an increasing number of individuals are venturing to new countries all across the globe.

NOTE – Now you have to tell the reader that you are going to write about some of the consequences of this and then say whether it has a positive or a negative effect.

SAMPLE – “The consequences of this trend must be considered before it can be concluded whether it is beneficial or harmful.”

BODY

Your body can have 2 paragraphs with each one having a consequence (good or bad) or more international travel. Then your conclusion can say whether more international travel has a positive or negative effect overall.

SAMPLE – “One desirable result of international travel is that it fosters understanding between different cultures (How?) When people are only exposed to their own culture they can be suspicious or even hostile to other worldviews. However, by travelling to other countries, people can open their minds to different ways of living and realize that people are mostly the same everywhere and any differences are typically minor.

“Of course, there can be stark contrasts in culture which can lead to conflict when they come into contact (Like what?) For example, in many Western countries people form a queue when they are waiting for something, but in other countries people push their way to the front of the line. (Bad result?) This kind of behaviour can lead people to believe that people from some places are rude or uncivilised or think that they are more important than others. (Big problems?) Furthermore, it is true that some aspects of a culture are incompatible with other cultures. Keeping dogs and beloved pets versus eating them is a prime example of this.

CONCLUSION

Decide whether more international travel has overall positive or negative effects (or say it has positive and negative effects)

SAMPLE – “On the whole, the continued growth of international travel is a mostly positive phenomenon (Why?) By opening up the world, international travel helps to reduce national barriers and build a more peaceful world. (Mostly?) However, people must be respectful of other cultures and make an effort to be respectful when they travel to a foreign place.”

FULL ESSAY

With the ease of modern air travel, an increasing number of individuals are venturing to new countries all across the globe. The consequences of this trend must be considered before it can be concluded whether it is beneficial or harmful.”

One desirable result of international travel is that it fosters understanding between different cultures. When people are only exposed to their own culture they can be suspicious or even hostile to other worldviews. However, by travelling to other countries, people can open their minds to different ways of living and realize that people are mostly the same everywhere and any differences are typically minor.

“Of course, there can be stark contrasts in culture which can lead to conflict when they come into contact. For example, in many Western countries people form a queue when they are waiting for something, but in other countries people push their way to the front of the line. This kind of behaviour can lead people to believe that people from some places are rude or uncivilised or think that they are more important than others. Furthermore, it is true that some aspects of a culture are incompatible with other cultures. Keeping dogs and beloved pets versus eating them is a prime example of this.

On the whole, the continued growth of international travel is a mostly positive phenomenon. By opening up the world, international travel helps to reduce national barriers and build a more peaceful world. However, people must be respectful of other cultures and make an effort to fit in when they travel to a foreign place. (280 words)
